Kopius Cafe was established by seven young and ambitious students from Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT). The seven founders are highly inspired and determined teenagers who share a strong passion for coffee and a desire to create something unique for the community. Their idea of establishing a coffee cafe began with a simple problem that they experienced themselves. They found it difficult to find a coffee cafe in Terengganu that could provide a wide variety of coffee choices to satisfy their preferences.
During their search, they discovered that many cafes offered only a limited selection of coffee. Although the available cafes provided good-quality drinks, customers often had only a few choices when deciding what type of coffee they wanted. This inspired the founders to create a cafe with a completely different concept. Instead of focusing on only a small number of popular coffee drinks, they wanted to create a place where customers could explore coffee from different countries, cultures, and flavours around the world.
The main vision of Kopius Cafe is to provide a wide selection of coffee that can fulfil different tastes and preferences. The founders aim to offer such a large variety of coffee that customers may find themselves confused about which drink to choose. However, this confusion is intended to be a positive and enjoyable experience. Rather than being confused because there are not enough choices, customers are confused because there are simply too many exciting coffee options to choose from. This concept allows customers to explore new flavours and discover coffee that matches their individual preferences.
The cafe's name, "Kopius," was created to represent this unique concept. The word "Kopi" means coffee in the Malay language, while "Us" represents the idea of coffee being for us or belonging to everyone. When combined, "Kopi" and "Us" form the name Kopius. The name also gives a sense of curiosity and confusion, which reflects the cafe's concept of providing an extensive variety of coffee choices. Customers may enter Kopius Cafe knowing that they want coffee but become pleasantly confused when faced with the many different options available.
